Twins Jailed for Attempting to Join Islamic State

A Canadian court has sentenced twin brothers to a combined 24 years in prison after they plead guilty to terror-related offences, including trying to leave the country to join a radical Islamic group.

Ashton Larmond, 25, was sentenced by an Ontario Superior Court to 17 years in prison minus time already served for giving instructions to carry out an activity for an extremist group, public prosecutors said.

His brother, Carlos, was given seven years minus time served for attempting to leave Canada to participate in a militant group. Carlos was arrested at the Montreal airport in January 2015 as he was trying to leave Canada. His brother and a third man, Suliman Mohamed, 23, were arrested shortly later.

The prosecutor in the case said Ashton directed plans to join Islamic State in Syria or kill people in Canada, and described him as more of an organiser than his brother.
Mohamed was also sentenced on Friday to seven years minus time served for conspiring to participate in the activities of a militant group.

Father and Daughter Beat Up Train Passenger Causing Extreme Brain Injuries

A court heard Michael and Hayley Friel were travelling home when the door to a lavatory cubicle was opened while she was in there. Her furious father questioned other passengers to try to find who had opened it after she was left “exposed and embarrassed”.

Michael Friel, 58, who was jailed on Thursday for two years, then became “intimidating and threatening”, Chester Crown Court was told.

Passenger James Clarke said he was to blame –even though he did not open the door – to try to calm the father and deflect attention from the person responsible, a woman sitting near the lavatory.

More than 18 months after the attack, he cannot walk 100 yards unaided and remembers nothing of the attack because of his “life-changing injuries”.

Michael Friel pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and Hayley Friel, who was convicted of the same charge, received a 28-month jail sentence.

Woman Charged to Court for Giving Water to Pigs

The trial of a woman who
gave water to slaughterhouse-bound pigs heard Wednesday from the owner of the animals who said he complained to police because he was concerned about the safety of the pigs and the animal activists.

Anita Krajnc, an activist with the group Toronto Pig Save, was charged with mischief in connection with an incident in June 2015, in which she started dumping water inside a tractor trailer carrying pigs to a slaughterhouse in Burlington, Ont. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The pigs' owner, farmer Eric Van Boekel, testified Wednesday that he complained to police because
he was worried there were contaminants in the water, and that could lead the Fearman's Pork slaughterhouse to turn his hogs away. That, he said, would be the worst case scenario, though he acknowledged that it's never happened to him. Van Boekel also said he was worried about the animal activists.

Krajnc, who was wearing a pink shirt with a
picture of a pig on it under her pantsuit, said
outside court that she did nothing wrong, and
that she continues to give the pigs waterto this day.

3 Elephants Die After Being Run Over By A Train

Three elephants died on Friday night after being hit by a train in South-Eastern Railway’s Bankura-Howrah section in West Bengal.

Divisional forest officer, Panchet, Ayan Ghosh told PTI two elephant calves and their mother were knocked down by the Kharagpur-Adra Passenger at around 7.30pm.

The train moved on but the jumbos’ mutilated carcasses spread across the tracks between Bisnupur in Bankura and Piyardoba in West Midnapore for over two hours disrupting train movement in the section, the DFO said.

The pachyderm family was crossing the track, skirted by dense forest on both sides, when the mishap occurred. The carcasses were removed from the tracks by the forest and rail personnel with the help of locals after which train movement was fully restored, he said.

The Coroner's office has confirmed it is investigating the death of Kathy Hansen whose Fitzroy St home was destroyed by fire on Wednesday night.

Man Slashed His Mom In The Throat Before Turning The Knife On Himself

The bloody mayhem broke out inside the 149-unit senior center on 26th Avenue near Corporal Kennedy Street in Bayside at around 12 p.m., sources said.

After the 47-year-old man attacked his 72-year-old mother, he went into the living room, sat down on a recliner chair and took the knife to his neck, according to sources. Both are expected to survive.

“It seems he wanted to kill his mother and himself,” said Joseph Schulz, the son of a manager on the property, adding that he called 911 after a “hysterical” home health attendant ran to his door and asked him to.

The man “was in the apartment for a while and he asked the maid to leave for some privacy while he took a shower,” according to Schulz.

Schulz added, “I heard there were some medical troubles or some bad news came in and he seemed to cut her throat and then his own throat.”

Emergency responders rushed the man and the elderly woman to New York Hospital Queens. The man was in critical condition while his mother was in stable condition, officials said. Police recovered a kitchen knife at the scene.

A representative for the senior facility, which is owned and operated by Selfhelp, confirmed there was an incident, but could not provide any immediate details.

Man Sets His Stepfather On Fire

Police say an altercation between a man and his stepfather erupted Friday morning at their home at 925 Bridge Street.

Authorities say the stepfather, who family identified as Kevin Hawkins, was doused in gasoline and then lit on fire by his stepson.

Police say Hawkins then went to a neighbor’s home next door for help. That person who runs a daycare at that home called 911.

One neighbor says she heard screams of the horrific situation. Neighbors who knew Hawkins say they called him Pop, are also in disbelief and are trying to understand why.

Hawkins was flown to Westchester Medical Center with severe burns to his upper body.

As for Hawkins stepson, police say they are looking for Andrell Jaquan Leppanen, 29, who is not in custody at this time. The family did not want to go on camera but are asking for prayers at this time.

A family friend says she hopes the Lappanen believed to be responsible for this is found before he hurts himself or anyone else. Police say the circumstances surrounding the altercation is still being investigated.

ISIS Young Boys Executes Men In Shocking Footage

During the gruesome propaganda clip young uniformed 'soldiers' stand behind the five captives, down on their knees with firearms to the back of their heads.

One of the youths makes a statement in Arabic before all raise their handguns and sickeningly kill the men in front of them.

The children are British, Egyptian, Kurdish, Tunisian, and Uzbek, according to the jihadist-monitoring company SITE Intelligence Group.

All the men in orange jumpsuits they kill are believed to be Kurds, who are apparently being
'punished' for recent Kurdish advances in Syria and Iraq. The second child from the right, who has fair skin, is named as Abu Abdullah Al-Britani (which means British) and is reportedly from the UK though this has yet to be independently confirmed. It is not known exactly how old the boys are.

According to FOX News, the other young killers are identified as Abu Al-Baraa Al-Tunisi, Yousouf Al-Ozbaki, Abu Fuad Al-Kurdi and Abu Ishaq Al-Masri.

4-Year-Old Girl Drowns At Grandfather's Birthday

A four-year-old British girl has died in a Spanish hospital after drowning in a swimming pool during a family holiday to celebrate her grandfather's 60th birthday.

Blossom Kelly, from Skelmersdale in Lancashire, was reportedly pulled unconscious from a pool in the town of Sils, near Girona on Saturday.

She was airlifted to hospital in Barcelona and placed on life support but her parents made the heart wrenching decision to switch it off on her father's birthday on Wednesday.

Blossom's mother Vicky Kelly posted a moving tribute on Facebook which has been shared more than 2,000 times.

She said: 'She put on the most amazing battle but her little body was tired and we had to make the most difficult decision of our lives and let her go and she chose to go today on her daddy's birthday.'

Family, friends and people who have been moved by Blossom's story have changed their Facebook profile pictures to pink flowers in tribute to the four-year-old, reports the Liverpool Echo.

They have also been offering kind words of support. One friend Kerrie Baron wrote: 'RIP Blossom, such a beautiful little girl taken far too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.'
